A voice on the NEU Executive and in the TUC
Since her election in 2020, Kacey has represented LGBT+ Members on the NEU’s Executive Committee. She sits on the NEU Policy Committee and the NEU Equalities Committee, working with the NEU Executive Committee to ensure that the needs of LGBT+ members are understood and accounted for.
As a disabled member, Kacey regularly attends the NEU Disabled Members’ Conference. She actively challenges both ableism and racism within the NEU and beyond.
Kacey is an active and vociferous member of the TUC LGBT+ Committee, where she has developed exceptionally strong working relationships with members from other unions.
Led in the creation of the TUC LGBT+ Conference motion on collectively working for trans rights. Kacey moved this motion at the TUC LGBT+ Conference, and it was prioritised to send to the TUC Congress. The final speech to move the motion, which was passed by TUC Congress in 2022, was written by Kacey and delivered on her behalf (who was unable to attend due to teaching commitments).
Leading in the writing and winning of several motions at NEU LGBT+ conference and NEU National Conference, Kacey ensures that she seeks to link the struggle for LGBT+ liberation with the wider fight for equalities.
